Shobak Castle, Jordan

Shobak Castle

Shobak Jordan

Once called as Mont Real, Shobak is a crusader castle settled on top of small hill in southern part of Jordan and ideally located on hill on the plains of Edom, along caravan and pilgrimage routes from Syria to Arabia.

Build during the time of Baldwin I circa 1115, the castle remained as part of estate of the royal family until 1142 it became part of Lordshop of Qultrejordain.

Up to now the castle’s exterior is still impressive and well preserved, the walls, gates, ruins of baths, Islamic inscriptions, churches, cisterns and archways.
